Caitriona Balfe is running the London Marathon. That’s a feat in itself, but she’s now shared that she’ll be returning to Glasgow that night for work the next morning.
There’s no rest for the wicked. Or for those taking part in charitable organizations and runs. That’s certainly the case for Caitriona Balfe, who is running the London Marathon on April 23. The annual event is one of the most publicized marathons in the world and something people have to submit applications in to take part in.
However, Balfe has learned her Outlander Season 4 filming schedule isn’t very sympathetic to her cause. Not only is she working all the way up to the race (she’s going to try to do some yoga to stretch before the race) but she’s working the very next day. And it’s not like she can just roll out of bed and hobble (because that’s what I’d be doing!) to the set. She needs to get a flight to Glasgow the night she completes the marathon and get on set at 5am the next morning, according to the Evening Standard.

Couldn’t she just take the next day off? Well, filming doesn’t work like that. The Outlander cast and crew are on a tight schedule and just one day off could be a problem for Balfe’s part. So, she’s needed bright and early.
I admit that I have a lot of sympathy for her. While I’ve never done a marathon, I have done a 24-hour walk with a group of friends. We’d spend a couple of hours walking and then a couple of hours off (but doing some exercises in between). My legs ached like crazy after that and I had to go into work the very next day. It was hell, but at least I wasn’t running around filming sets!
Balfe wasn’t originally going to run the London Marathon. She asked her much sportier sister if she would do it for her for the charity World Child Cancer. Her sister ended up guilt-tripping her into doing the marathon anyone, so both have been training for the last few months with the support of co-star Sam Heughan, who is doing his own marathon shortly.

Here at Claire and Jamie, we certainly wish you all the best, Caitriona! Both for the race and with work the next day!
