No longer an electrician, Andy the Highlander is not just a Jamie Fraser body double, but now conducts tours for Outlander fans in Scotland.

While being a former electrician was alright for Andy McAlindon, he is now best known as Andy the Highlander, proudly conducting tours of Scotland for Outlander fans. McAlindon has quit his day job as an electrician after he has found fame in the television series.

His “How to wear the plaid” YouTube video went viral. Andy the Highlander has since been a part of the production in the Starz television series, serving as a body double for Sam Heughan, the lead actor playing Jamie Fraser. McAlindon has been used as Heughan’s leg double of all things in the filming of the series.

More from Outlander Fandom

He met Outlander author Diana Gabaldon when they were filming and they struck up a fast relationship. Gradually, Andy the Highlander would be featured in the television series as an extra in several capacities. Even his wife and oldest son have been on screen in the filming of the television series.

Since July, McAlindon has started his own touring company to show fans all the good stuff from Outlander in Scotland. It’s called Highlander Tours and is now his main job. This is a testament to the massive reach of this fan base. If a guy can quit his day job to conduct tours for a popular television show, more power to him.

Andy the Highlander is coming off a big third season of Outlander for himself. He had been on set for filming for 25 days this past season. Obviously, he is hoping for an even bigger role in the upcoming fourth season. Could you blame him?

Of course, not as this would only be good for business all the way around. Given that Andy the Highlander is already a YouTube star, this would certainly put more eyeballs on the show for people to spot him on screen. Since he runs his own touring company, that only adds to the allure of the tour itself. Why would fans not want to get an exclusive tour with an actor from their favorite show?
