Outlander death scene made composer Bear McCreary weep
By Jeremy Dick
Frank’s death scene on Outlander was just as emotional for Bear McCreary as it was for the fans, as the composer admitted to weeping while scoring it.
If you’re still recovering from the death of Frank on Outlander, you’re not alone!
Recently, Outlander composer Bear McCreary dove into his work for the show for an interview with Entertainment Weekly. As noted in the article, Season 3 of the series was full of many dramatic moments, which certainly includes the death of Frank. While this seems to still weigh heavily on fans, it turns out that the man who composed the heartbreaking music for the scene is haunted by it as well.
Speaking with EW, McCreary reveals that he couldn’t help but just openly weep while composing the music for the scene:
"“I found myself weeping as I was writing. I felt so much for Claire. I felt for Frank and I loved the theme I wrote for Frank and it was sad writing it, knowing it was the last time. In many ways, I was saying goodbye to a piece of music that had been in my life for three years and a character.”"
Frank’s car accident is undoubtedly one of the biggest moments of the show. And saying goodbye to the character was a challenge for those behind the scenes just as much for the fans watching. Still, there’s nothing but excitement left for the show’s future, and it will be interesting to see what developments come about in Season 4.
