Caitriona Balfe didn’t win Best Actress at the Golden Globes and Outlander fans took to social media to share their disappointment.

The Golden Globes was in the news for all types of reasons. For Outlander fans, it was the chance for Caitriona Balfe to walk away with an award. She was nominated for Best Actress for the third time and Claire and Jamie certainly believes she deserved it. Admittedly, Elisabeth Moss’ performance on The Handmaid’s Tale was outstanding, so it’s not that surprising the award went to her rather than Balfe.

However, not all fans are impressed. Many took to Twitter, Facebook and more to share their disappointment in the news.

Many still see Caitriona Balfe as a winner

Regardless of who took home the Best Actress award, Outlander fans have one main thing to say: Caitriona Balfe is still a winner in their eyes. Being nominated is an honor in itself. There were plenty of very capable and excellent actresses overlooked for an award. And there’s no denying that the category had some serious competition.

Moss wasn’t the only one viewed as a threat by many. Claire Foy from The Crown was highly praised after being nominated and many Claire fans viewed her as a big contender for the win. Being put in such a class of women is an achievement within itself.

She should have won

Of course, fans were disappointed that Balfe didn’t take home the Globe. That’s perfectly understandable and many took to Twitter to share their thoughts. Some kept it simple, with a statement of their beliefs. Others went into a little more detail.

Some of the biggest conversations happened in Facebook groups. Outlander fans were angry that their actress didn’t get the win. Some did admit that they’d never watch The Handmaid’s Tale to compare performances, while others shared that they preferred Balfe over Moss. Others made it clear that they were just unhappy that for the third year in a row Balfe had been “snubbed.”

Outlander should have had more nominations

Of course, there were many who looked at the Golden Globes as a snub to the show itself. Balfe was the only cast member in the show to get a nomination this year. Even Outlander as a whole didn’t get a look. Fans had already shared their disappointment at the lack of nomination for Sam Heughan, especially for his performance in the Season 3 premiere.

Many fans shared they hated how fixed the awards show was. Some say they won’t bother watching next year, knowing that Outlander will continually be overlooked.

Focus on the engagement news

Rather than focus too much on the lack of Golden Globe win, some fans focused on a more important life event. Everybody spotted the ring on a certain finger while Balfe walked down the Red Carpet. After speculation over the holiday season, this looks like confirmation that Balfe is definitely engaged. Fans declare that this is much more exciting and important. A Golden Globe win can’t beat an engagement.

Focus on #TimesUp

During her attendance on the Red Carpet, Balfe also talked about the #TimesUp. The Golden Globes saw the majority of women wear black, in support of the current allegations against men in the industry for sexual harassment. Balfe has been a vocal supporter online and she continued that during her attendance at the awards show. Rather than focus on the Globe result, Outlander fans focused on Balfe’s message.
