Does Claire really take part in a certain 18th century practice in Outlander? [Spoilers]
Claire and Jamie make it to Jamaica in Outlander season 3, episode 12 and there may be a shocking surprise for many.
If you haven’t read the books, you may be trying your hardest to avoid spoilers. If that’s the case then you won’t want to read on. However, there are usually some spoilers that are almost impossible to avoid, especially if you are part of Outlander Facebook groups.
People love to chat about the events to come in the books. The events in Jamaica have come up a lot recently, particularly a subject that may or may not be written into the show. However, judging by the trailer it looks like this particular element is going to be included. There’s a particular practice in the 18th century that Claire is possibly going to partake in during “The Bakra.”
If you’re still reading, you’re likely looking for answers to a major question:
"Does Claire really buy a slave while in Jamaica in Outlander?More from SpoilersDid Bree and Lord John Grey marry in Outlander?Outlander Season 7B: Will Diarmaid Murtagh return as Buck MacKenzie?Outlander Season 7B: Will Chris Fulton return as Rob Cameron? Will Dottie be in Outlander Season 7B?3 characters who definitely won’t return in Outlander Season 7B"
Considering her dislike of some 18th century practices this can seem shocking, but the truth is in “Voyager” she really does buy a slave. This is accidental, though.
How can you possibly accidentally buy a slave? Well, she’s not actually the one who buys him and she really only ends up with him because she wants to protect him.
The storyline takes place in Barbados rather than Jamaica, but it is possible the storyline will be moved to Jamaica for the sake of keeping the storylines condensed. Claire witnesses a slave auction and is appalled at the event. Her actions lead to the slave’s situation being made worse, so she asks Jamie, Fergus, and two others to do something to help him. Jamie thinks the best option is to buy the slave and gives him to Claire.
The slave is important in the storyline to find Young Ian, so it suggests that it’s an important part of the storyline. However, they could do it through the branding rather than purchasing of the slave, and branding is going to take part in the episode.
