The most beautiful moment in Outlander season 3, episode 11 was the Fersali wedding, but one of Fergus’ names has brought up a question for the fans.
There is no denying that the wedding between Fergus and Marsali was the most beautiful part of Outlander season 3, episode 11. Not only did the two promise themselves to each other, but Fergus also found a family. When he admitted that he had no last name, Jamie stepped in to make it clear that Fergus was his son; he was officially a member of Clan Fraser.
While many fans smiled and shed a few happy tears, there were some who questioned Fergus’ middle name. Jamie made a point of saying “Fergus Claudel Fraser.” Where did the name Claudel come from?
Fergus’ name in France
While he’s know as Fergus to fans now, that wasn’t always the little pickpocket’s name. When he lived in France before meeting Jamie and Claire, he was called Claudel.
Fergus was the son of a brothel prostitute. He never knew his parents, not even knowing who his father could have been. That didn’t stop him fantasizing about his father being a rich man. While there are many theories, there is nothing yet confirmed about Fergus’ parentage. All that fans do know is that he was called Claudel.
The name was too French for Jamie, so he changed it to Fergus. The young pickpocket didn’t really argue in Outlander. From that point, the name Claudel is often forgotten about. There has been no need to bring that up, until now. Jamie made a point of never forgetting where Fergus came from, but where he is now.
