The Outlander Powers That Be release the parts of the scripts that don’t make the cut on air, but they don’t always make fans happy.

Releasing the scripts is a relatively new thing for Outlander. Due to so many changes to the books, the Powers That Be like to share some of the scenes that didn’t quite make it to the final version of the episode. It’s supposed to be a sweet way to include all fans and show that the writers did have poignant and emotional scenes for the main characters.

Sometimes the scenes are deemed extremely important to the fans. Just this week, fans were irate at the deleted scene: where Claire and Jamie continue to bond over Brianna and Willie. The editors made the choice to cut the scene out and fans were furious that more time was given to the Jonah storyline.

The Outlander writers have taken to Twitter to defend the editors. It’s not just them who make the decision to cut the scenes. They work extremely closely with the showrunners, Ronald D. Moore, Matthew B. Roberts, and Maril Davis to get the feeling just right for the episode.

In other words, if you really want to blame someone for a deleted scene, it’s the showrunners. They get the final call. Not the writers; not the editors; not Starz…well, okay some of Starz will have a part to play but it’s mostly the showrunners.

The Outlander writers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on removing a certain scene from “The Doldrums.” It can’t be easy for the showrunners to make some of these calls.
