Jamie isn’t quite after the woman from the tavern to prove that he isn’t Jewish, but he is after someone in Virgins section 32. Unfortunately, his actions lead to a death.

We know that Jamie is a valiant man when it comes to women. He wants to protect them as best he can, which is likely why he turns against Mathieu in the section.

Breaking down Virgins section 32

I had to reread previous sections when getting into this one, because I felt like we had missed something. Jamie rushes up the stairs and into a room, where Big Mathieu has the brown-haired tavern girl and is trying to have his way with her. Jamie tells him to let her go, but of course, Mathieu doesn’t.

Ian has followed Jamie up the stairs, and he invokes the protection of Joseph, Mary, and Bride, and that’s when the fight starts. Jamie kicks Mathieu, but he continues to ignore Jamie and try to force himself on to the girl. When the girl hits her head and falls to the floor, a fight fully breaks out between Jamie and Mathieu.

Pistols end up drawn, and there is gun fire. Jamie strangles Mathieu, but it doesn’t seem like he does this to kill him. It turns out that the woman has been killed from a bullet wound to the head.

So much happened here, and it just all seemed a little pointless. I guess it gives us a look at Jamie’s violent nature, as he has always told Claire that he is a violent man. This proves that, and it is similar to the Jamie that we have seen in Outlander. I guess I just don’t get why he suddenly turned like this.

Could this section be used in a TV adaptation?

I guess Virgins would need to adapt this section if it was used in an adaptation, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Unless there is something to continue the story with Mathieu, then there’s really no need to include all of this for a TV series, especially something that I would envision as a limited prequel series.

If it was adapted, it would be a great way to show who Jamie was in the past. I do think a little more explanation would be needed for all of this. Overall, though, I just feel like Virgins should end with Dr. Hasadi learning about Rebekah, and that’s it.
