Knowing the trouble that they can come across, the mercenaries have thought out a better plan for the newer job in Virgins section 18. It leaves Jamie and Ian transporting Rebekah and the Torah.
We get to see the type of trust that D’Eglise is putting in Jamie and Ian in this section. After all, Rebekah and the Torah are the two more important elements of the job, and they’re the two tasked with looking after them. Will they be worthy of that trust?
Breaking down Virgins section 18
It’s time to head to Paris, and that means the mercenaries need to split up. Some of the men have gone ahead to flush out any trouble, and then another group is taking the money. Jamie and Ian are taking Rebekah, her maid, and the Torah.
It doesn’t sound like the plan was originally for the Torah to go with Rebekah. It may have been smarter to split everything up to avoid one group being a big target. However, the doctor notes that both Rebekah and the Torah are his greatest treasures, and he wants them both protected by the same people. It seems that he took a shine to Jamie when meeting with him.
Jamie shares that he hopes that he and Ian are worthy of the trust put onto them. I do find it a little foolish that only Jamie and Ian are escorting the two women and the Torah. They could end up being attacked worse because of this. Although, I guess, at the same time, they could come across as companions traveling, and that could mean they’re not as likely to be targeted.
Could this section be used in a TV adaptation?
There is no doubt that this section would need to be used if Virgins was adapted. This sets up the next bit plot for the story, especially with what seems to be tempting fate on the lives of Rebekah and her maid.
This could be where some of the conversations with Ian happen if not in the tavern if the show wanted to avoid the previous two sections. We could see Jamie think about Jenny while he’s with Rebekah and the maid. However, with how little time the sections take up, it does make sense to include them all and remain realistic to the whole life back then.
