At long last, Conrad puts himself first, but is it too late? We break down the events of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, episode 7.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, episode 7.

Okay, so I’m always going to be Team Conrad. Does that mean I support everything he’s done? Not at all. I just believe that out of Conrad and Jeremiah, he is the better one for Belly.

At the same time, I do think Belly needs to be alone and figure out what she really wants. It’s clear that she has mixed feelings, and nobdy in her life is helping.

It’s time for the Stag and Hen Dos in The Summer I Turned Pretty

Okay, so for the Americans, that is the bachelor and bachelorette parties. I just prefer the British terms, so that’s what I’m using. Yes, it’s time for the parties before the wedding, and while Belly and Jeremiah promise to end up in bed with each other at the end of the night, we all know that’s not going to happen.

Jere gets wasted with his friends, friends who are still going on about the night at Spring Break. Conrad is shocked at that, and it just reminds us that Jeremiah opted to sleep with someone and then lied to Belly about it.

Meanwhile, Belly ends up downing 10 shots of tequila just to avoid questions about comparing the two Fisher brothers. I can’t really blame her, either. Belly is able to turn things around on Denise, though, who has been invited since she and Steven may end up being a thing. It’s awkward for Taylor, but she does push through like a champ, admitted that Denise is the type of woman she expected Steven to finally dump her for.

Belly’s parents get together

After the initial chat, Laurel and John do end up showing that they still have feelings for each other. John also shows that he clearly knows Laurel, as when she is angry at Adam for bringing Kayleigh to the wedding, John points out that it’s not Kayleigh that bothers Laurel. It’s the fact that Susannah isn’t there.

The night ends with John and Laurel giving into their feelings, and I kind of love this. Have we ever been told why the two broke up in the first place? I can’t remember, and I get a sense that with them being such great co-parents that they didn’t break up on the worst of terms. Maybe they just needed to see that they were right for each other.

How will Belly and Steven take this? If they’re smart, they won’t let their kids know until they’re sure of what they want.

Belly learns that Conrad changed Laurel’s mind

During the bachelorette party, Taylor tells Belly that she had nothing to do with getting Laurel to come to the wedding. That was all Conrad, and Belly can’t help but go down memory lane. Conrad has always done what makes Belly happy, including buying a glass unicorn for her birthday that she’s spent a lot of time playing with one day in a shop.

So, it’s not surprising that while Jere is passed out on the bed, Belly goes to the beach to see Conrad. That’s where Conrad gets a chance to let his feelings out. He makes it clear that he pushed Belly away because he didn’t want to drag her into his darkness, but he regrets it every single day. He doesn’t want Belly to be with his brother, and he wants her to choose him.

Belly is shocked, but she ends up telling Conrad, “You and I were never anything." We all know that’s not the truth, but the words sting as Belly storms off from the beach. She does end up crumbling in the sand, though, crying as she thinks about what she’s said. Now she has to figure out her heart and mind just weeks from the wedding.

In the end, she is in Taylor’s bed. I’m so glad that despite everything with Steven, Taylor continues to have her best friend’s back. She will always be Team Belly. It doesn’t matter if she’s Team Jellyfish right now, it’s always going to end up being Belly she protects and roots for, whichever Fisher boy Belly chooses in the end.

The Summer I Turned Pretty airs on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
