We head over to the house across the road in The Space Between Section 32. Not only is this a chance to learn about who died, but Michael also finds out where Le Comte lives.

Michael is a step closer to saving Joanie. The question is whether he can get to Le Comte St. Germain in time, while also dealing with some of the grief that he will feel. It’s yet another loss for him.

Breaking down The Space Between Section 32

In the previous section, Joan noted that the black swash on the door handle meant that someone in the house had died. It doesn’t take long to find out that someone is Charles Pepin. That was what Joan was supposed to tell Charles not to do, and I’m surprised that she didn’t see a grey shadow over his face considering what it was he was considering, or did she just not bring it up?

Michael learns that Charles took his own life, and his wife is angry at Michael. She is sure that he knew about Charles’s affairs, especially with Leonie. So, it turns out that Leonie wasn’t the only woman he was sleeping with, but I don’t think it would have been the affairs that made him take his own life. Instead, it was likely the fact that he lost the house in a card game the week before.

Charles has left the family destitute and homeless. He likely feared how his family would take this. And it’s not a reason to take one’s life, but in this time period, I’m really not surprised he did it.

Michael doesn’t really have time to sit with the family and grieve, though. He needs to know where Le Comte St. Germain lives, and when he learns that it’s across the road, he rushes out.

Could this chapter be used in a TV series?

There is certainly a lot going on in this section without even realizing it. Charles taking his own life is sure to link to various other storylines going on. After all, we know that Charles was talking to Le Comte St. Germain just recently. Is it possible that this was the reason Charles took his own life? I’d say it’s plausible.

On top of that, we have Michael learning where Le Comte lives. He needs to save Joanie, and he rushes off to play hero. Of course we would need to see that if The Space Between was adapted.
