Joan is stuck in a house that Le Comte St. Germain has taken her to in The Space Between Section 31. We find out what happened to her.

This section tells the events of what happened at the cowshed in the previous section. I do wish that we would be shown more rather than just told, but then that’s something a TV show can do much better as it has to play out the scene for us.

Breaking down The Space Between Section 31

Joan is stuck in a house. She is terrified that the furniture will move on its own after Le Comte St. Germain told her that he is a sorcerer. People of this time would easily believe such a thing, although people would probably laugh now.

As Joan looks around, she sees that there are bars on the inside of the window. She has to wonder what Le Comte is trying to keep out of the house. After all, the bars are usually placed on the inside. Does this hint that this was all a rush job, or has he been trying to keep something at bay this whole time?

This is when we learn what happened in the cowshed. Le Comte placed a hand over Joan’s mouth and dragged her to his carriage. From there, he grabbed her hands and looked at her deeply. It was clear that he was in thought until he asked if she knew “the frog.” Joan laughed at this, telling him that she knows a lot of green ones, but that’s not what Le Comte was asking about.

Joan’s answer angers him, but he ends up back in thought until he gets to the house that he is keeping her at. Joanie needs to find a way to escape, and she grabs a mortal and pester, with the intent of smashing the glass and screaming outside for help. As she considers this, she sees Michael entering a house across the street, but by the time she has been able to smash the glass, he has already gone inside.

Joan notices one important thing: the door handle has a black swash over the door handle, indicating that someone has died in there.

Could this chapter be used in a TV series?

If The Space Between was adapted, I could certainly see this section playing out, but it would be done differently. We would see the abduction happen at the time, and we would get to see all of the expressions on Le Comte’s face as Joan doesn’t answer him in the way he expects.

We also need to see Joan’s survival instincts step in. She’s terrified of the room, but her need to escape is bigger, and she doesn’t mind looking for a way to get help. While she isn’t Jamie’s biological daughter, she has learned from him.
