Joan faces punishment for her actions at the market the previous day in The Space Between section 29. However, it turns out that she doesn’t mind the punishment at all.
Joan is put on cow milking duty, which is something that she doesn’t mind doing. I could actually see this being quite peaceful if you get the cow at the right time, and if you have a skill at it. There are certainly worse punishments out there.
Breaking down The Space Between section 29
Joanie gets on with her cow milking duty with grace. She picks some fresh flowers and grass for the cow, who can enjoy her snack while Joan gets to work. This is something that reminds Joan of home, and she milked plenty of cows there. It all becomes second nature to her.
She can even tell when the cow is becoming restless early on, so she simply moves the bucket and stands. I love seeing Joan in her element. She is a farm girl, and while this could bring up some homesickness, I think it also shows how she is fitting in with everyone.
However, the section gets a little tense and worrisome. The man in the dove-grey coat appears again, telling her that she should come with him. I would love for this to be Master Raymond, but this is sure to be Le Comte St. Germain. We know that the dove-grey coat man showed up at the market, and we also know that she warned Le Comte St. Germain.
Could this section be used in a TV series?
I can’t help but worry for Joan at the end of this section, and because of that we need to see it play out if The Space Between is used for a TV series. I would like to see it start with Joan getting the punishment, though. Right now, everything is internalized, but we would need to see it happen on the screen.
The end of the section is essential to the overall story. While Le Comte wouldn’t be a surprise to use as viewers, he’s still a surprise to Joan, so the end still works. In fact, it works better as we would get the confirmation that it’s Le Comte rather than just trying to work it out through a series of clues and deduction.
