The Buccaneers season 2 premiere picks up straight off the back of the season 1 finale. It’s time for Nan’s wedding, but will she go through with it? Well, she doesn’t have a choice if she wants to keep Jinny safe. However, there are a few secrets that threaten to come out.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Buccaneers season 2, episode 1.
Nan feels bad about the wedding, especially for lying to Theo. He thinks that she has chosen him, but Nan didn’t have a real choice if she wanted to protect her sister. Theo’s mom makes it clear that Nan now has a duty to create a happy life with Theo, and she will stick to her word as long as Nan does her duty.
Nan turns to Aunt Nell for advice in The Buccaneers season 2 premiere
Nan’s aunt, Nell, turns up at the wedding, much to Patricia’s surprise. Nan decides to turn to Nell for some advice about marriage, and Nell shares that Nan needs to make the best of this decision that she has made. Once you make a decision, you need to stick to it and see it through.
It’s clear that there is something personal about this advice, and when Nan says that it’s much easier talking to someone who isn’t her mom, there’s a look that suggests there is more. Sure enough, we get what that more is as Patricia and Nell discuss the past.
Nell slept with Tracy at some point in the past, and Patricia is understandably angry about that. How could her sister do such a thing? Well, it turns out that there is more to this, as Nell shares that she was younger than Nan was when it happened. If Patricia thinks that Nan is just a child right now at 19, then will that change her mind understanding Nell’s age?
It does, and Patricia realizes that she should have been a big sister to Nell at the time. This leads to a conversation about Nan, as it turns out that Nell is Nan’s biological mom. At first, Nell couldn’t raise her own child, but then she wanted to and Patricia wouldn’t let her. Now Nell wants to be able to tell Nan everything, but she won’t do it.
Nan seems to understand toward the end of the episode, though. While it’s never said outright, the fact that Patricia and Nell hadn’t spoken for 19 years gives it all away. Nan decides to just wave off her mom and aunt, who are heading back to New York together. Tracy is left having to figure out his own way home, but he’ll be returning to divorce papers.

Dickie and Conchita figure out what to do next in The Buccaneers
Now that Dickie has taken over the title of Lord Brightlingsea, he turns to Conchita with some fears. Now they need to figure out how to get out of the financial hole that his parents got them in.
Fortunately, Conchita understands finances. She can look at the books and figure it all out, and Dickie is on her side to do that. The question is whether the rest of the family is interested in saving themselves.
Sure enough, Dickie’s parents want nothing to do with the idea of selling off items. Conchita questions how they got out of financial troubles in the past, and Dickie’s mom points out that marrying a wealthy American was supposed to be their way out of all this. Conchita was always used for her money, and now she needs to use her brains.
There may be an option when she runs into Cora Maragan and her mom, who Conchita knows is the daughter of Maragan, the clothing store owner. Cora wants to find a way into high society, and Conchita has the connections. She will help, but it has to come at a price.

Lizzy’s potential suitor and Jinny’s new location
Then there is Lizzy, who has her eye on a man at the wedding. That man is Hector Robinson, who is a Member of Parliament. He doesn’t have much of a title to go with that, which is both a good and bad thing.
Hector is clearly not like the other men around town. He pays Lizzy a visit at her home, sharing that he was wrong not to ask for Lizzy to dance. It looks like a new love could blossom here.
The end of The Buccaneers season 2 premiere tells us where Jinny and Guy have gone. They are in Italy, but Guy realizes that Jinny’s name is all over the papers. Nan also realizes this, and she needs to give people something else to talk about. So, she decides to wear a bright red dress to the Black and White Ball, making sure she is the talk of the town.
