You’ve seen the stories before from the Old West. The Abandons is bringing a slightly different take, with two matriarchs going head to head for the sake of their families and their land.
The new Netflix series is set in the 1850s, in a world where it was kill or be killed. Those who didn’t follow those looking to make a name for themselves could end up suffering pain and loss, but some of them were willing to stand up for what they thought was right.
Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson will go up against each other in the new Old West series on Netflix, and the trailer certainly gets us excited for it.

The Abandons trailer
The trailer gives us the basics of what to expect in the new series, which makes a change as Netflix has a habit of telling us everything that happens in trailers! The series is set in the Old West, with Anderson taking on a rather darker and more dangerous role than she has in the past. She’s the villain of this story, a woman named Constance who wants everyone to fall in line.
Then there’s Headey’s Fiona Nolan, a woman who isn’t about to just give up her land. She will fight for what is hers, even if it means facing loss and fire. There is clearly more to Fiona’s fight to keep her land, as this is something that has been in her family for some time, but it’s also a stand for what it right.

The Abandons cast
Anderson and Headey are certainly the two powerhouses leading this series, and they will be more than enough reason to watch it. However, the rest of the cast stands out for some great reasons as well.
Lucas Till will take on the role of Garret Van Ness, the son of Constance. He’s joined by Aisling Franciosi as Trisha Van Nest.
Other stars include:
- Nick Robinson as Elias Teller
- Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller
- Lamar Johnson as Albert Mason
- Natalia del Riego as Lilla Belle
There are also some notable guest stars, some of whom were spotted in the trailer. Look out for Patton Oswalt, Michiel Huismen, and Toby Hemingway.

The Abandons release date and episode count
There are set to be 10 episodes to the season. It turns out that the first episode was more of a feature-length episode and it had to be split in two. It was around this point that Kurt Sutter stepped away from the project he originally helmed.
The Abandons is slated to be released on Thursday, Dec. 4 on Netflix. All 10 episodes will drop at once.
