The Outlander season 7 finale brought a major twist. It’s something that the books plant the seeds on, but hasn’t been confirmed. It’s just one of those fun theories for the readers. The show has ran with the theory, it seems.
Frances was singing a song that she most definitely shouldn’t know. It’s not because of her upbringing, but because of the time that the song has come from.
Frances was singing a song from 1907 in the Outlander season 7 finale
Our young orphan was singing “Oh, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside.” It was a popular British musical hall song that was composed in 1907. Now do you see why Frances shouldn’t know it? We’re in 1778! The song hasn’t been written yet.
John H. Glover-Kind wrote the song in 1907, but it was Mark Sheridan who made it popular after recording it two years later. So, with that in mind, it’s even more impossible for Frances to know the song.
Claire sang the song to her daughter, Faith
This is why Claire was captured by the song choice. As she walks into back into the church, she asks where Frances heard the song. Her mother sang it to her when her mother was still alive.
Well, Claire sang this song to her stillborn baby Faith back in Paris. And let’s make a note of that. She was a stillborn baby. While Frances’s mother is called Faith, there is no way that this could be Claire’s Faith, could it? Well, Claire is starting to doubt everything that she knows.
What if Faith was still alive, which is something we just looked at here at claireandjamie.com? What if Faith had Jane and Frances, and now Claire and Jamie are with one of their granddaughters? It doesn’t seem possible considering everything that we know, but we need to go back to Master Raymond showing up in the episode. He asked for forgiveness, saying that Claire would understand. Is this what he wants forgiveness for? Did he bring Faith back and then not allow Faith and Claire to be together?
Another option is that Frances’s mother was also a time traveler and just happened to be called Faith. If the woman time traveled from 1907 or after, she could have certainly known the song.
