The latest Hallmark movie, She’s Making a List, is more than just a romance movie. It focuses on the failings of corporations and the true spirit of Christmas. Does Isobel get her man?

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from She’s Making a List

We all know that Hallmark movies end with romance, but there’s a buildup to that. Usually, there is someone learning that there’s been deceit and getting angry, but that’s not the case with this release. Instead, we get a story of two people trying to change the Naughty or Nice List.

How Isobel meets her man on She’s Making a List

We learn that Isobel grew up as an orphan, constantly blending in with the world, and was offered a job with the Naughty or Nice corporation at a young age. She quickly climbed her way to becoming one of the top inspectors at the children, making those final decisions about whether a child is on the Naughty or Nice list.

At first, she is focused on following the company rules, with the opinion that a naughty child never stops being naughty. However, when she ends up with a child to follow, she realizes that naughty actions don’t always make children naughty.

As she starts to fall for Charlie’s dad, Jason, and she spends more time with Charlie, she realizes that things aren’t quite right. The system is flawed, especially when it’s pointed out that the formula has a 99.9% accuracy. That means two million children are incorrectly classified. With that, Isobel decides that she can’t still work for the Naughty or Nice Group.

She’s Making a List ending explained: A story about bringing change

The focus of the story isn’t even Isobel finding her man. This is actually about a woman standing up for what is right. As she learns that there’s a flaw in the system, she realizes that the flaw was making any child naughty. By doing that, there’s no incentive for a child to be good.

And so, she, Jason, and Charlie head to see Santa himself to get him to change the way the Naughty or Nice list works. It all works, with Santa noting that while it will mean a few extra stops, it will be worth it. He also offers Isobel a job, which will all be remote.

Yes, there is still romance within it all. Isobel and Jason do end up together. At least, that’s the way She’s Making a List suggests when they kiss not under the mistletoe (because they don’t need mistletoe for that), but this Hallmark movie isn’t all about the romance. It’s a beautiful take on Christmas, and something worth watching again.

She’s Making a List is available to stream on Hallmark+.
