We’re closing in on Halloween 2025, and there’s no doubt that you’ll want to check out something fun to watch. Did you know that romance and horror can mix well?
Of course, romantic horror movies can lead to death and despair. However, there’s also a bittersweetness to some of them, and you’ll certainly want to watch for the varied emotions that they bring. Each of these horror movies have a romantic element at the heart of them, whether good or bad.
Lisa Frankenstein
I have to start with the fun 2024 romantic comedy horror movie. Yes, it covers all three genres, and it does all three well. Lisa Frankenstein follows the titular character, who is an outcast at school. She comes across as a misunderstood teenager at first, but there is something much darker bubbling underneath.
When she decides to bring a Victoria corpse to life, she ends up on a murder spree with him. They become their own Bonnie and Clyde, finding love and happiness while carving up a few body parts. This is one of those movies where the ending is likely to surprise you, so I’ll leave you to watch it and not spoil anything.
Heart Eyes
If you’re a fan of traditional slasher horror, then the 2025 Valentine’s Day release, Heart Eyes, will be the movie for you. This one focuses on couples, as they end up becoming the unsuspecting victims, and that’s why it has to be included on the list of romantic horror movies.
Every Valentine’s Day, a masked maniac with red eyes comes out to slaughter the couples. As soon as a particular couple end up as the next victims, they realize that they need to fight back if they want to bring Heart Eyes’s reign of terror to an end.
Warm Bodies
Do you love zombie movies? Well, Warm Bodies is one that’s worth checking out, showing just how much love can do in an impending apocalypse. Is it possible for zombies to learn how to feel and love again?
In this world, a plague has wiped out half the population and turned them into zombies. When Julie is attacked, a zombie named R comes to her rescue, and she can see that there’s something different about him. As their relationship grows, so do the differences in R from the other zombies, suggesting that maybe love is the cure.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Dracula is one of those odd romantic horrors, in the way that it’s definitely not romance but obsession. Count Dracula is forced to live off the blood of others to live his eternal life, but doesn’t eternity get boring on its own?
Well, when Dracula comes across Mina, who is the spit of his dead wife, he becomes obsessed, and he will do anything to track her down. Only, Mina has a fiancé, Jonathan Harker, and he isn’t about to let his future wife become a member of the undead.
Hotel Transylvania
I’m going a little differently for the last offer, as it’s one that you can watch with the whole family. Hotel Transylvania is a romantic horror movie at its heart, but it’s also one about acceptance and differences.
When Count Dracula invites all the monsters he knows for his daughter’s 118th birthday, he doesn’t expect a human to crash the party. Nor does he expect to find out that his daughter has fallen for this teenage boy. Here starts a love story and a mission of a father to protect his daughter.
