Rebus is in need of a second season (and here's why)

All six episodes of Rebus season 1 are now available on Viaplay. This is one of those series that desperately needs a second season.

If you’re looking for a new crime drama to check out, Rebus is the show to watch. However, unlike a lot of crime dramas, this one doesn’t wrap up the full story by the end of the season.

In fact, there doesn’t seem to be any closure at all. We have one person dead, one person on the run, and the criminal still getting away with literal murder. The only thing that seemed to come to an end was Rebus’s complete loathing of himself.

Throughout the season, Rebus managed to get to the bottom of what he wanted. He wanted his family back, and while he may think he doesn’t deserve it, he has somewhat got that. It’s just not the way he wanted. There is also still a long way to go for that family and for others around him.

There are far too many questions for Rebus to end

The first season was clearly written with a longer gameplan set up. We have a lot more questions than answers.

Who killed Lockie? What will Christie do next? Is the UDA after Michael? Will Rebus have to turn to Cafferty for help? It’s almost like the situation got even worse by the end of the season, which usually isn’t the case.

So, it’s clear that we need a second season just to answer all of these questions.

John Rebus needs to continue his character development

There’s also the fact that Richard Rankin’s character has only just had his breakthrough. It was a breakthrough he didn’t even mean to have, and here he is, figuring out what he wants. His past and the current state of the world have left him jaded. He doesn’t even believe that he deserves good things.

However, there is hope for him by the end of the season. This isn’t just with Rhona and Sammy coming to stay with him. There is hope because of his acceptance that he is his own worst enemy. He started to make changes, such as no longer sleeping with his best friend’s wife. He could start being more civil about Lockie, knowing this man was setting up Sammy in a way that he and Rhona couldn’t on their own. People can change, and this show reminds us of that. It just takes a person who wants to change to see it through.
