Outlander season 7B saw Claire and Jamie return to Scotland, but that didn’t last long. Over the course of eight episodes, we feared that Jamie had died and then Claire would die. It’s time to look back at the eight episodes and rank them from worst to best.

To be honest, the second half of Outlander season 7 didn’t have any overly weak episodes. They brought emotion for a variety of characters, whether it was Roger and Buck in 1739 or William as he learned more about who he was and figured out where he fit in. The season may have finished back in January, but it is still on our minds, and here’s our ranking of the episodes.

Outlander season 7, episode 10, “Brotherly Love”

There is one main reason I think this is the weakest episode of the entire block of episodes. It’s just so rushed when it comes to Ian, Jenny, and Jamie’s storylines. I would have loved to have more time with all of them, and to see Ian and Jamie actually connect a little more in Ian’s final days.

The story itself was a beautiful on, and I enjoyed seeing Claire and Denny working together to treat Lord John Grey’s nephew. Of course, the news at the end was heartbreaking, but the promo for the episodes gave it away that Jamie would return. Sorry; it just wasn’t believable—and I say that about the books as well.

Outlander season 7, episode 11, “A Hundredweight of Stones”

This is one of those episodes that is a little more forgettable than the others. The one part that does stand out is when Claire and John connect with each other as a way to grieve their loss. It’s realistic and animalistic, that it makes it clear that this was not about love or compassion at all.

I also enjoyed seeing Captain Richardson tell Claire which side he was really on. This helped to build on the mystery of Captain Richardson, making it clear he is a man that we can’t trust.

Outlander season 7, episode 14, “Ya Dinna Get Used to It

It would have been great to see more of Brianna fighting off the men outside her home. However, this episode did a good job of foreshadowing something to come. It’s a book storyline that I don’t want to spoil here for those who haven’t read the books. Plus, technically, it’s a potential book storyline as it’s something that hasn’t fully been explained yet.

Getting to see Frances more was great, and her inclusion was well woven into the story. We had the opportunity to see more of her character. After all, it’s clear she is going to become a much bigger force in the series.

Outlander season 7, episode 12, “Carnal Knowledge”

Seeing the end of Jamie and John’s friendship was certainly heartbreaking. Some of it didn’t feel all that believable, and it didn’t quite connect with the way I saw things playing out from the book. However, the series has a lack of time problem, and there’s nothing anyone can do about that. Seeing Jamie get both sides of the story and be able to forgive Claire so quickly just shows his love for her.

Plus, we get to see George Washington in this episode. It’s clear that the Revolutionary War is at a major point, and now everyone needs to pick a side. Jamie has proven his worth for Washington, and he ends up with a position that works in his favor.

Outlander season 7, episode 16, “A Hundred Thousand Angels”

The Outlander season 7 finale was strong, but not as strong as finales that have come before. My heart absolutely broke when it came to Rollo’s death, and I’m still angry with how that was handled in one small way. Dog deaths are already hard enough to deal with on shows.

The twist at the ending certainly added to the mystery of time travel, Master Raymond, and Claire herself. Getting the various connections back to Outlander season 2 made me nostalgic for a part of the story that I didn’t even care for at first. It does make me want to see more of Master Raymond, though.

Outlander season 7, episode 9, “Unfinished Business”

I did enjoy the start to Outlander season 7B. There is no doubt that I would have loved for Claire and Young Ian to have more time in Scotland, but this episode was important for a few reasons. The first is Claire finally telling Jenny and Ian that she is a time traveler. While they may not believe it, they didn’t argue with her sanity, and she finally showed that she does love and respect the family.

Another reason is that we gained closure with the Laoghaire storyline. Jamie was able to see her and find a way out of having to pay her alimony. Laoghaire was able to move on with a man she had genuine feelings for, and Joanie was able to follow her dreams after having to push them to one side for so long.

Outlander season 7, episode 13, “Hello, Goodbye”

Getting some closure for Roger was always going to be important. I certainly enjoyed Roger and Buck’s time in 1739. There were some excellent moments with Geillis and Brian, but it was this episode that I loved the most. Roger finally figured out why he was sent to this time.

He was able to meet his father, a man he only knew from stories. However, in the end, it was just a quick hello, and he couldn’t even say who he was. For Jerry’s safety, Roger had to get him back through the stones and back to his own time, making it a bittersweet moment for both men.

Outlander season 7, episode 15, “Written In My Own Heart’s Blood”

The best episode of all of Outlander season 7B, and possibly all of Outlander season 7 was the penultimate one. This was the one that showed us just how much Jamie loves Claire. Throughout the whole episode, Claire was sure that something would go wrong at the Battle of Monmouth. Little did she know that it would be her facing death and not Jamie.

When the surgeon decided he couldn’t operate, Claire managed to get Denny to come back. Of course Denny was going to do the job, and he had all the training from Claire to make sure he didn’t kill her by accident. We saw Jamie resign literally in Claire’s blood, marking a monumental part of their love story.
