There are certainly a lot of Sherlock Holmes retellings out there. In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on putting the story in the present day. Prime Video is bringing us something a little different with Young Sherlock.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin will take on the iconic role, bringing his own style and pizzazz. This is a different Holmes to the one we more traditionally know, as he is still a teenager, and he’s in a spot of bother that he will need to figure out a way out of.
What is Young Sherlock about?
The new series is set in the 1870s, and while it will start at Oxford, there is always the hope that it ends up at 123B Baker Street!
We catch up with a younger Sherlock Holmes, giving us an origin story, and a look at how Sherlock and Moriarty’s relationship developed. Picking up with Sherlock as a disgraced young man, he ends up wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his freedom. Of course, he needs to figure out the mystyer, and not just for his own liberty — he needs to figure it out for his sanity!
So, off on a globe-trotting adventure he goes. He’ll meet various people we know from the Sherlock stories along the way, including Morarity. However, John Watson is nowhere to be seen just yet.
When will Young Sherlock premiere on Prime Video?
Young Sherlock is getting a binge-watch release on Prime Video, which is certainly great news for many. There are eight episodes in total, and they will all drop on Wednesday, March 4.

Who will star in the new Sherlock Holmes series?
The Young Sherlock cast is impressive. After star Hero Fiennes Tiffin will take on the role of the 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes. He will be joined by Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, who will eventually be Sherlock’s arch-nemesis. This would suggest that the two work together with this first case.
Joseph Fiennes, Fiennes Tiffin’s uncle, will also join the series as Silas Holmes, Sherlock and Mycroft’s adventurous father. They will be joined by:
Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an
Natascha McElhone as Cordelia Holmes, Sherlock’s mother
Colin Firth as Sir Bucephalus Hodge
Max Irons as Mycroft Holmes
Guy Ritchie will direct the first two episodes, bringing us a feeling of the movies that he created starring Robert Downey Jr. This is not a series to miss!
