Will there be a Season 2 of The Essex Serpent?

Apple TV+ has some great TV shows worth checking out. One of those is The Essex Serpent.

Based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Perry, it follows a widow from London who moves to a small town in Essex when she hears of a superstitious creature responsible for hardship and trouble. Set in Victorian England, the small town believes that the creature is the work of the devil, but Cora wants to prove that there is something rather human behind it all.

Of course, she ends up becoming the prime suspect for unleashing the sinister being. Trying to convince a town of people that their superstitions are just that is impossible.

On top of that, the pastor has fallen for her. And it looks like there’s a woman from London who is also in love with her. Will Cora manage to make it out of town alive, and will she return to London in the end?

Will The Essex Serpent be renewed for Season 2?

It’s highly unlikely that Apple TV+ will renew the show, and that’s nothing to do with the ratings. The series was envisioned as a miniseries. After all, it was based on a standalone novel. A lot of British shows are miniseries, which makes them popular for viewers. There’s no need to worry about the ending being a cliffhanger.

There have been times that a miniseries has turned into a bigger show. We just have to look at Big Little Lies for that. However, more often than not, the streamers are sticking to original plans for a limited series when it’s suggested.

As you get to the end of The Essex Serpent, you’ll see that there’s no real need to extend the story. We’d love to see the character development, but there isn’t actually a need for it.
