Will the Alys/Aemond mystery be answered in House of the Dragon Season 2?

There is one mystery from Fire & Blood that hasn't been finalized in the book. Will House of the Dragon Season 2 answer our burning questions?

House of the Dragon has the chance to give us definitive answers compared to Fire & Blood. Could one of those involve the Alys/Aemond mystery?

For those who have read the book, you’ll know that Daemon leaves Harrenhal and Ameond ends up there after Rhaenyra takes King’s Landing. Aemond does execute most people at Harrenhal, but not Alys Rivers. Instead, the two start a love affair.

The actual love affair isn’t something that’s up for debate. What is up for debate is the child Alys has after Aemond’s death.

Does Alys give birth to Aemond’s legitimate son?

After Aemond’s death, Alys claims that the two married in secret. So, the baby that she gives birth to is Aemond’s true son. This makes him an heir to the Iron Throne.

However, after Aegon’s death, the Greens never use him as a king. Aegon doesn’t want Rhaenyra’s children to sit on the Iron Throne, but it’s her son Aegon who is the last remaining heir to the Iron Throne. He has to sit on it.

Yet, maybe he isn’t. Alys may have another heir. An heir that surely the Greens would want.

This mystery likely isn’t going to be solved in House of the Dragon Season 2

I don’t suspect that we’ll get answers before the end of this season. There are only two episodes left to go, and I’m sure we’ll see the ending have Rhaenyra take King’s Landing. Everything is currently being set up to have the dragonseeds claim their dragons, allowing Rhaenyra a few victories.

Only then is Daemon really able to leave Harrenhal. That leads to Aemond taking Daemon’s place there. So, it’s more likely that we’ll see all of the Aemond/Alys scenes play out in House of the Dragon. That is likely to be in the third season.

No, I don’t doubt for a second that Alys gives birth to Aemond’s son. It’s whether he’s legitimate that is the question. I don’t think anyone really takes her word for it that the two married in secret, and that’s likely why the Greens didn’t turn to this boy as an heir to the Iron Throne after Aegon.
