Why was Why Women Kill canceled after two seasons?

Why Women Kill gave some some great stories set in different time periods. Why did the series end up being canceled?

There are some great period dramas out there. Sadly, some historical fiction gets cut shorter than it should, and that was certainly the case for the series Why Women Kill.

The first season was set in three time periods, following three women who all killed someone. It wasn’t always clear who they were going to end up killing or how, and the storylines played out were intriguing. We certainly got a look at women from different time periods and how the world had changed.

The second season was slightly different, with the story focused on just one time period and one group of characters. However, there were multiple women willing to kill, but why and who would then end up killing off?

Why Women Kill was initially renewed

It’s worth noting that Parmaount+ originally renewed the series in December 2021. Then in the summer of 2022, the renewal was rescinded.

Paramount+ never offered a reason behind the cancellation of the series. The statement was that the streamer made the “difficult decision” not to bring us a third season.

It is possible that it was a viewership thing. That’s usually the case for streamers, although they tend to keep the numbers close to their chest. After all, we can’t hold them accountable, can we?

Period dramas are expensive to create. There are the costumes, the cars, the settings, and even the CGI afterward. All of this cost adds up, and the streamers need to get the subscribers watching the show to justify the costs.

That doesn’t make sense when you consider Why Women Kill was originally renewed. So, is it possible that there were just too many delays? That doesn’t make a lot of sense since it was after the pandemic issues of 2021, but it’s hard to say. Streamers changed a lot of things because of the pandemic, and that affected a lot of shows.

It’s not like it was a casting issue. The series was an anthology series, so there would have been a whole new cast for a very new story in the third season. Maybe there was an issue with bringing a compelling story, but I doubt that considering it was originally renewed.
