Why is there still such a wait for The Couple Next Door? (Speculation)
When Starz confirmed it would land the Sam Heughan series The Couple Next Door, Outlanderfans were excited. It would make the third Sam Heughan series to come to the platform.
Starz told us that it would arrive sometime in 2024. Since then, we’ve had crickets. That was until the summer, when we learned it would arrive in winter. Only, it changed from 2024 to “this winter” and we know that winter doesn’t technically start until the end of December.
While there is time for the series to arrive in December 2024, it’s looking less and less likely. We’re more likely to see it in January 2024. So, what is Starz doing?
Starz will want the perfect timing for The Couple Next Door
It’s not like the network has to wait for episodes to be ready. The show has already aired in full in the UK, airing on Channel 4 back in November 2023. So, there’s no excuse not to bring the show, except for scheduling needs.
We know Outlander Season 7B was supposed to arrive in 2024, and we all assumed earlier on in 2024. Yet, Starz pushed the release back to November this year, disappointing a lot of fans. The only thing that makes sense is scheduling of other shows on the streamer (and to avoid a long Droughtlander for the final season).
What about The Couple Next Door, then? There may have been an initial plan to bring Outlander Season 7B in summer 2024 and then The Couple Next Door straight after it. It makes sense to have a Sam Heughan series run straight after another one. Why not capitalize on those who already have Starz for Outlander?
It’s disappointing, though, especially since this is a miniseries. The show doesn’t need to count on the viewers to be renewed because there is no sequel series. At least, nothing in the plans right now. So, scheduling for Starz considering it has so many other shows to air is the only thing that makes sense.
The Couple Next Door will arrive on Starz “this winter.”
