When I first watched the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, I thought we saw Aegon the Conquorer in Daemon’s vision. It turned out not to be him, but someone very important in terms of the White Walkers.
Daemon’s vision took us through a few things to come. We got to see his death, a fallen dragon, and Daenerys Targeryen. We also saw a man with a portwine stain birthmark on his face, seemingly sat in a tree. This is the Three-Eyed Raven, and yes, we have met him in Game of Thrones.
Daemon saw Brynden Rivers in House of the Dragon
The vision opened with Brynden Rivers, an illegitimate son of King Aegon IV Targaryen by his sixth mistress, Lady Melissa Blackwood. He was legitimized by his father, and he even served as Hand of the King to King Aerys I Targaryen and King Maekar I Targaryen. However, he would eventually be sent to the Night’s Watch, where he ended up becoming Lord Commander.
Due to the portwine stain birthmark on his face, he was known as Lord Bloodraven. The mark was even said to look like a raven.
He has a connection to Daemon through his sword. Brynden carried Dark Sister!
Bryden would go North of the Wall on a ranger mission, which is when he went missing. Of course, we now know that Brynden didn’t just go missing. Bran Stark finds out that Brynden is still alive. He is now the Three-Eyed Raven, living with the Children of the Forest. We never get to find out how that happened.
Brynden was always said to tell Duncan the Tall that Targeryens had dreamed of things to come since before the conquest. We know about Aegon the Conquorer’s dreams, but now we know Helaena has visions of her own. Is it possible that Brynden always had them, and he was able to utilize them in a way that no others had before him?
