Who is the dragon in the Vale in House of the Dragon?
Jeyne Arryn said that she needed a dragon for protection in House of the Dragon. Now Rhaena wants to know why that is when there is already a dragon in the Vale. Well, it turns out this dragon can’t be tamed.
Rhaena was out with her brothers when they came across a burned patch. It’s clear that only a dragon could cause this, but that goes against everything Jeyne has said. It means that there is a dragon, and she’s lied to Rhaenyra.
Who is the dragon in House of the Dragon?
Well, Jeyne didn’t really lie. While there is a dragon, it’s not one for the Vale to use for protection. In fact, it puts some of the people in the Vale at risk as it likes to steal livestock. Sheep, more specifically.
This dragon is Sheepstealer, earning his name because of his favorite pastime. That’s what the burned mark left behind was all about. He killed some sheep and flew away with the food.
There are two other wild dragons whose names may come up: Grey Ghost and Cannibal. However, Sheepstealer is the only one in Westeros that is tamed.
Will Rhaena get a dragon of her own in House of the Dragon?
There are constant mentions that Rhaena doesn’t have a dragon of her own. The egg that was in her crib didn’t hatch, which means she didn’t get one of her very own. She has tried to ride dragon, even trying to ride Vhagar, but to no success. Corlys is worried of her trying again, and Rhaenyra has made it clear that she doesn’t want Rhaena attempting it again.
Well, Rhaena may not abide by her stepmom and grandfather’s wishes. There is a chance that she could find a way to tame this particular dragon. It certainly seems based on teases of Rhaena’s storyline that she is going to end up using sheep to tame Sheepstealer.
This storyline actually belongs to someone else in Fire & Blood. This is Nettles’s storyline. I’ve gone into why this change isn’t necessarily a good thing. However, there’s no guarantee that there is this change coming. That’s just the way it seems right now.
But there is a dragon in the Vale, and that dragon is likely to play a larger role in House of the Dragon Seasons 2 and 3.
