Alicent and Gwayne Hightower had a moment we needed in House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 6. It gave the two time to come to terms with the past that led them here. Alicent also got a chance to learn more about her third son, Daeron.
You’ll be forgiven if you forgot about Daeron. TV shows have a habit of not always mentioning characters that are off-screen. Daeron has had a mention before, but it was more of a blink-and-you-miss-it type of moment. The scene between Alicent and Gwayne was long enough to make it clear that Daeron is likely to come up again.
In fact, he does get a mention in the promo for the next episode. He’ll be joining the fight for the Greens, so you’ll want to know who he is and what to expect.
Daeron Targaryen is Viserys and Alicent’s third son in House of the Dragon
Daeron is the younger brother of Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond Targaryen. He was sent to Oldtown to serve as cupbearer to Alicent’s cousin, Lord Ormond Hightower. He is described as the favorite of the three boys in the book, and it’s clear in the show that being away from King’s Landing has been good for him. He’s a kind boy, which Alicent can’t say about Aegon or Aemond.
Daeron rides Tessarion during the Dance of the Dragons. He will even take part in some battles. We know that he will help in Episode 7, and likely in the finale.
It won’t be too surprising to find out that he does eventually die. After all, Rhaenyra's son Aegon ends up on the Iron Throne, bringing an end to the Dance of the Dragons. The death shouldn’t happen in House of the Dragon Season 2, though.
Daeron's death comes after Aemond’s death. His death is also one that is never solidified in the book. His body is never recovered, and there ends up being a few pretenders to the throne because of it.
