We’re ready to start another Lord John Grey book. We’re at the end of Lord John and the Custom of the Army, and now it’s time for the next part in the story. It’s all about Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner.
This was renamed to The Scottish Prisoner, dropping the “Lord John” part of it. That’s because it’s not just Lord John Grey’s story. We get the POV of an extra special character: Jamie Fraser.
Yes, the one and only Jamie Fraser is included in this story. We see John and Jamie working together, even though they are still extremely early on in their special relationship. This sets the tone for their relationship moving forward. It’s not all about John’s infatuation.
Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner start date
So, when will we start our read-through? As this is one of the longer novels in the Lord John Grey series, it makes sense to give people some time to catch up and get the book. So, we’ll start the read-through on Monday, Aug. 12.
There are 41 chapters in the story. So, with our weekday posts, that will take us to Monday, Sept. 7. That will allow us for some time off before we move onto the next book in the universe.
We’ll be finished with the Lord John Grey books before you know it!
What to expect in The Scottish Prisoner?
The year is 1760. John is back from Canada after dealing with some of the personal situations there. As he deals with the last wishes of Carruthers, who ended up dying of smallpox before he was court-martialed, he has to deal with a situation in Ireland.
Meanwhile, Jamie Fraser is struggling with the memories of his wife and a real threat of Jacobites. There is another attempt at a Jacobite rising, but Jamie wants nothing to do with it, especially with the information he knows from Claire.
