When could production on House of the Dragon Season 3 begin?
House of the Dragon Season 2 won’t premiere until summer 2024. That doesn’t stop fans from looking ahead. After all, this is another series that has a long break between seasons, so we want to get an idea of the type of wait we’ll have.
There is a little bit of good news for fans of the Game of Thrones prequel series. Writing of the third season is starting this month according to Redanian Intelligence. It’s not clear exactly when in January, but it’s either just started or it is starting soon.
That means production will start soon, right? I wouldn’t expect that to be the case. It’s way too early to start talking production start dates.
When could House of the Dragon Season 3 film?
It took the second season a year to start production from the writer’s room opening. Yes, a year! This is a show where the scripts are fully written before production starts up. A few shows will start filming as the scripts become ready.
Getting through the writing was essential last year. The WGA strike started in May and it was clear that it was going to happen. With the House of the Dragon writers part of the WGA, getting through the writing was essential to allow filming to happen. The SAG-AFTRA strike wasn’t as bad for the series as the actors worked under the Equity banner instead.
So, with that in mind, we could look at House of the Dragon start filming Season 33 in January 2025! That would mean we’re waiting until 2026 for the season to arrive due to the amount of work needed during post-production. It would match the wait for the second season, as it looks like we’re waiting two years for the second season.
House of the Dragon is available to stream on Max.
