What is Lord John and the Haunted Soldier about?

Before you start reading the next book, you’ll want to know a little about it. This includes the synopsis of the book, but you’ll also want to know if a certain Scottish prisoner turns up in the story.
What is Lord John and the Haunted Soldier about?
The story picks up in November 1758. Cast your mind back to the battle at Crefeld in Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. Do you remember the incident with the cannon? Well, that is coming up in the story.
Lord John Grey is pulled into an inquiry along with the other surviving members of the gun crew. Grey took over after the sudden death of Lieutenant Lister, and that means John needs to answer a few questions. He has brought some of the shrapnel that was removed from his chest after the blast. It’s clear that there is something questionable about the gun.
There is a mystery involved with the book, of course. This wouldn’t be a Lord John Grey book without a mystery of some sort. The father of Lieutenant Lister would like John to find the lieutenant’s missing fiancée and child. John can’t say no to that.
Is Jamie Fraser in Lord John and the Haunted Soldier?
Fans of Outlander will want to know which characters we’ve already met in the main Outlander books will be in the story. More importantly, they’ll want to know if Jamie Fraser is in it. After all, he’s in the book before.
Jamie doesn’t appear in person. However, he is mentioned a lot, with John writing to him.
Likewise, Hal Grey is only mentioned in this book. He’ll pop up in others, though, as we get to know more about the Grey family.
