What is Lonely Planet on Netflix about?
October is usually the month when we look for the horrors, but that doesn’t stop us from wanting romance. Netflix has us covered with a few releases, and one of them is Lonely Planet.
Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth star in this movie. It’s sure to bring up some complicated thoughts considering there’s clearly an affair element—and if you’re like me, the name of one of the characters is also a problem with affairs in mind—but at the heart of it is a story of love and finding yourself.
What is Lonely Planet about?
The Netflix movie follows Katherine, an author who heads on a writers’ retreat to help unblock her writer’s block. She doesn’t want to take part in the group activities. Her focus is on finding somewhere quiet to finish her book.
That’s not what she’ll get though. While on the retreat, she meets Owen, a man who isn’t an author at all. He’s come with his girlfriend, who is an author, and he finds himself at some loose ends. He also finds himself reevaluating the choices he has made recently.
Owen realizes that his girlfriend may not be the one for him. He thinks she’s changing while she’s at the writer’s retreat, and he certainly feels like he’s the odd one out while there. That is until he meets Katherine and connects with her. The problem is that there’s this relationship. Will the two get into a messy affair?
The movie isn’t just focused on romance. There’s an element of finding oneself mixed in with it all. Katherine goes on a journey of unblocking her mind, and that means exploring the world and experiences things that she never thought possible.
Lonely Planet is available to stream on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 11.
