Understanding the mystery around Sharako Lohar in House of the Dragon
The House of the Dragon Season 2 finale saw Tyland Lannister head across the Narrow Sea. The Greens need to get rid of the blockade in the Gullet, and that means turning to the Triarchy. The only way the Triarchy would sail is under the command of Sharako Lohar, and while the men in the tent said “he,” we met someone who was very much female.
Abigail Thorn has taken on the role. Is this a major change from Fire & Blood? Not really. There are only a handful of mentions of Lohar in the book, and only one of them says “he.” Of course, the men in the tent said this and we still ended up with a woman who Tyland Lannister had to fight, which suggests that the people across the Narrow Sea don’t really stick to strict gender terms.
Who is Sharako Lohar in House of the Dragon?
We know very little about Lohar, except that they are a commander of the Three Daughters. This is the banner that the 90 warships sail under, as they include Myrish, Tyroshi, and Lysene people. This is why there are three men who Tyland talks to in the finale.
The Three Daughters align themselves with Aegon’s side of the conquest. Will they follow through with that promise? Well, Fire & Blood tells us that they do, but it comes at a cost.
What’s interesting is that Lohar is viewed as a male to the heads of the three cities. This is despite Lohar looking like a woman. This could bring up the topic of the transgender community across the Narrow Sea.
Tyland is respectful of this. He can see that Lohar is not someone to insult, even fighting as hard as he can against them. Tyland earns Lohar’s respect so much that they want Tyland to father children with the wives. How many? We don’t get to know, but it may have been a tiring night for Tyland Lannister.
Whether male or female, it doesn't matter. Lohar has the command and respect of the men, and it's easy to see why in that first appearance.
