Is Ulf really the son of Baelon in House of the Dragon?
In House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 3, we met Ulf White. He quickly made an impression, sharing that he is an illegitimate Targaryen. In other words, he believes he is a dragonseed.
Is he, though? Who could he be related to, and what does this mean as the season progresses. After all, if Ulf is a dragonseed, does that mean he will ride a dragon?
Ulf may be the son of Baelor in House of the Dragon
Ulf didn’t say who his father is supposed to be, but we know from the timeline and the book that Ulf is potentially the illegitimate son of Baelor the Great. Baelor was the father of Viserys and Daemon Targaryen. After his wife Alyssa died, he didn’t take another wife, but he did sleep with numerous women in King’s Landing.
At the same time, the book never confirms this. We also know that Targeryen lords and kings had a ritual where they would sleep with the smallfolk women on their wedding night, being the first to claim the woman before their husbands. This wasn’t something the smallfolk liked to see happen, but can you really argue with a king? It makes it possible for really any Targaryens before Viserys and Daemon to be the father of Ulf.
Ulf White will ride a dragon in House of the Dragon
In Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, we learn that Ulf is easily able to bond with a dragon. He ends up riding Silverwing, which is one of those currently at Dragonstone. As it is the Blacks who start the process of finding dragonriders, he is on Team Black, despite living in King’s Landing right now.
That doesn’t last, though. Ulf, along with one other, ends up switching sides during the civil war. He is on the Greens side at the Battle of Tumbleton. It wouldn’t take long for Ulf to think about going for the Iron Throne himself. Why now when he is potentially the son of a king?
Well, that doesn’t work out well for him. Others don’t want him on the throne, and he ends up poisoned for his efforts.
