The Gilded Age fans got some excellent news ahead of the Christmas period. HBO has renewed the period drama for a third season.
This renewal isn’t all that surprising considering viewership. The second season gained viewers each week, according to Deadline, which is rare for a series. It was only logical for HBO to pick it up for a third season as it proves there are plenty of fans of the series.
It is worth noting that Perry Mason and The Winning Time were both canceled recently and fans of The Gilded Age were a little worried. After all, HBO had made it clear that the shows needed to perform in terms of viewership due to their sizeable budgets.
The renewal news came in shortly after the Sunday, Dec. 17 finale, which saw a major cliffhanger. Fans will be even happier about the news that the show will go on.
When will The Gilded Age Season 3 premiere?
That’s all we know so far. The renewal came in just before Christmas, when writers and actors take a break to spend time with families. It’s unlikely that we’ll see the third season in 2024 due to how long period dramas can take to film and get through post-production.
Season 1 premiered in January 2022 and it took until the end of 2023 to get the second season. That suggests we’ll get the third season sometime around the middle of 2025. It will be worth the wait.
Is everyone returning for Season 3?
There are no signs that we’re losing cast members for the third season. Julian Fellowes is also set to remain as showrunner of the series by the wording of the Deadline article.
However, writing work hasn’t fully started yet. It will all depend on where the writers see the storyline going as to whether all characters will return for the whole season.
The Gilded Age is available to stream on Max.
