With another season over, there’s a wait on our hands. House of the Dragon Season 3 is happening, but we’ll potentially have to wait until 2026.

Of course, there is Game of Thrones to watch next. We all know that! But what about something that isn’t in this universe? What other shows are out there that you can use to work your way through the next potential 24 months or so?

The good news is various streaming platforms have us covered. Here are five shows worth checking out.

Those About to Die

If you’re okay with a one-season series, Peacock has you covered. Those About to Die is set toward the end of the Gladiator period in Roman history. It’s perfect for House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones fans due to the heavy violence and raunchy scenes. It also has a standout cast, led by the one and only Anthony Hopkins.

All eight episodes are available to binge watch right now. We’re still looking out for news that there will be a second season.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

How about another series that is fantastical and beautiful in graphics? Prime Video has the Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power. The whole first season is out now, and the second season will premiere at the end of the month.

The series takes place centuries before the Lord of the Rings books/movies. It’s at a time before Sauron, although it’s clear that this threat is coming. While the factions live in some sort of harmony right now, that is all about to change.

The Boys (and its spin-offs)

If you love the violence and gore level of House of the Dragon, then you’ll want to turn to another Prime Video offering. The Boys is the show to watch. This is also loosely based on a book, but it doesn’t follow anything really in the storylines. The show has taken a life of its own, and it’s epic.

There are four seasons of The Boys to work through, with a fifth and final season coming. Then there’s the animated spin-off The Boys: Diabolical and the college-set spin-off Gen V, which will have a second season coming soon.

The White Queen and its sequel shows

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are certainly inspired by real history. Do you want a series that focuses on the real history that has inspired the stories? You’ll want to turn to those set during the Wars of the Roses, and The White Queen on Starz is one of them.

The first series follows Edward IV’s reign and his love story with Elizabeth Woodville. Then there’s The White Princess, which follows Henry VII and his wife Elizabeth of York. After that, there’s The Spanish Princess, which follows the early years of Cathrine of Aragon, with her marrying Arthur Tudor and then his brother Henry VIII.

Vikings and its spin-off series

Finally, we turn to Netflix. Vikings is the series you’ll want to watch if you need a show with history, violence, excellent character development, and romance. There are six seasons, although it does take a slight turn as it has to follow history and means the loss of favorite characters.

After this, there are three seasons of Vikings: Valhalla. This takes place 100 years after Vikings, and it follows three main characters as they fight for the rights of the people of Kattegat.
