A Gentleman in Moscow is another comedic show to try
How about another comedy period drama? A Gentleman in Moscow stars Ewan McGregor, and it is based on the novel of the same name by Amor Towles. With how great the book was, it’s not surprising it was picked up as a series.
The show is set in post-Revolutionary Russia. Count Alexander Rostov has been stripped of his material wealth and title. He is now under house arrest, and it happens to be in a grand hotel in Moscow.
While there, he starts to realize that he hotel has a lot of mystery and wonder. Now that he has lost everything and nearly his life, he realizes that there is far more to be excited and happy about. Community and love are just as great, if not more, than the material wealth he once had.
A Gentleman in Moscow is on Paramount+ starting on Friday, March 29.
Mary & George is a must for STARZ subscribers
If you want more of English history, then Mary & George is the series to turn to. This one covers a scandalous story from the reign of King James I of England. It is based on a book and is loosely based on real history.
Tony Curran plays King James. He ends up having an affair with George, the son of a countess who is after money and power. What better way than through the king? And rather than herself, she realizes the king’s interest in men and decides that her son can be the pawn in this story.
We often see the stories of the daughters being used as pawns for their father’s gains. This one gives us the gender flip, while still being based on a real story.
Mary & George premieres on Friday, April 5 on STARZ.
