Reign Season 3 brought a brilliant Elizabeth
I’ll admit that I rolled my eyes at the idea of bringing Elizabeth into the story. I would have loved to see Mary I of England brought in earlier on if this was the way that the show was going with the English court. I didn’t need to see Elizabeth I of England on screen. However, that changed as we saw the storylines play out. I loved seeing how Mary and Elizabeth were similar pawns and how they were humanized throughout. It was hard to side with just Mary when she was our main protagonist.
As much as I was disappointed to see the end of Francis, it was needed. Plus, I adored seeing his brother take over the throne, meaning that Catherine ruled as Queen Regent. She had already proven herself capable with Henri and now we had her in charge again.
One thing I did adore was that the series kept the memory of Francis alive throughout this season. It’s why I didn’t mind the loss as much as I did in the fourth season. We also still had plenty of Bash, who went on a murder hunt this season to give him something exciting to do.
