5 period dramas you need to watch while waiting for Outlander Season 7B
Warrior
If you want a story that focuses on America after the Civil War, you’ll want to turn to Warrior on Max. This series puts the focus on Chinese immigration in the 1870s. Most would arrive in San Francisco, and we get the chance to see how China Town started.
Of course, there is a lot going on. Not only do we see racism against the Chinese, but we also see how the Irish struggled with the Chinese coming in willing to work for less. Then there’s the focus on the Tongs in China Town, offering some protection for the people but also creating tension and trouble.
Yes, there is some romance in there. One such romance is between our lead Ah Sahm and a married white woman.
The Great
For those who want something a little different, The Great is the series to watch. Elle Fanning stars as Catherine the Great with Nicholas Hoult as Peter. This is satire so it’s not completely historically accurate, but it’s a fun ride throughout the three seasons.
The series follows Catherine’s arrival in Russia as she marries Peter but realizes that she wants more. Can she successfully carry out a coup to get rid of her husband and take over the throne?
After this, follow on with Catherine the Great starring Helen Mirren. This four-part series picks up in Catherine’s later life as she starts a love affair with Grigory Potemkin, played by Jason Clarke.
