You’re not imagining things. The Peaky Blinders movie has been in the works for some time. There has been a lot of chatter about it since the end of the series.

While it all seemed official before, it technically wasn’t. Sure, a lot of people were involved in the movie from the original series, but Netflix hasn’t yet greenlit the project. That’s all changed, as Deadline reports. The movie is officially a go.

Yes, Cillian Murphy is back as Tommy Shelby

There wouldn’t be a Peaky Blinders movie without Tommy Shelby returning. The good news is that Cillian Murphy isn’t done with the character. He is coming back to the movie.

It’s not clear who else will return for the movie. There are a lot of characters still running around Birmingham, so we’re looking forward to catching up with them.

Steven Knight and Tom Harper are involved in the Peaky Blinders movie

More great news is that Peaky creator, Steven Knight, is coming back. He will write the script for the movie.

He is joined by Tom Harper as the director. Harper was involved in the last half of Season 1, so he is familiar with the world of the series.

What to expect in the Peaky Blinders movie

This movie will be set during World War II, but we don’t know where or when exactly during the war. There are no other details of the movie just yet.

Fans will remember that the series picked up off the back of World War I. The soldiers returned from war only to find out that a lot of promises made weren’t being kept. This was known as The Great War at the time, as it was the biggest and deadliest war up to that point. Nobody imagined something like that happening again.

However, the series has highlighted the rumblings going on between the two world wars. Now it’s time to see how the Shelby family copes with the Second World War.

At the end of the series, though, Shelby stepped away from the family business. He killed off his cousin Michael and set old scores, before handing the keys to his sister Ada. Will he return to take over the family business? Will he turn to her for help when he gets into more trouble? We can’t wait to see.
