Don't expect Outlander Season 8 in 2024
We would love to see Droughtlander kept as short as possible. The bad news is this is a series that takes a long time to get through production and post-production. So, we shouldn’t expect to see any of Outlander Season 8 in 2024.
There is a little bit of good news, though. Production is going to start next year. There is a chance that production was meant to start some time this year but the strike action in the summer put things on hold. The writing had to stop because of the WGA strike, and a lot of the show stood in solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA strike despite not being a SAG show.
However, writing work started up again in the fall. Sam Heughan had some great news for us when it came to production of the final season (yes, final season!) starting up.
When could Outlander Season 8 come to STARZ?
Production is set to start in spring. There have been reports of March, but Heughan made it clear that Outlander Season 8 filming would start in spring 2024 and didn’t give a month away. This is likely a good thing considering he said Outlander Season 6 would premiere in February after STARZ said “early 2022” and it actually premiered in March!
Heughan also said that filming is set to wrap toward the end of the year, giving October as a potential month. After that, there is post-production, which can take just as long as production. We’re probably looking at the late spring of 2025 for post-production to finish.
This does allow for a late 2025 release date for Outlander Season 8. We’re likely to see the prequel first, as filming for that starts in January 2024. However, it is possible that we’ll get two seasons of Outlander shows in 2025.
