Could Outlander Season 7B work without Hal Grey?

It doesn't look like we'll see Hal Grey in Outlander Season 7B. Will the storylines work without him?

Not all storylines from the Outlander books can be used in the TV series. There just isn’t enough time. One of the characters who could end up not being in the story is Hal Grey.

There are no signs of Hal being in Outlander Season 7B. We can see John and there is a sign that Hal’s son Henry will be included, but not Hal himself. Will this be a problem, though? This is one character that while it would have been nice to see doesn’t add too much to the overall story just yet.

Hal’s important storyline comes in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone

Hal is included in An Echo in the Bone and Written In My Own Heart’s Blood storylines. In fact, Claire treats his asthma before she ends up in THAT big storyline with Lord John Grey. While Hal is an intriguing side character, he doesn’t add too much to the particular storylines.

He’s just around. He gives Claire reason to be in certain places, and he offers someone for John to talk to now and then. Skipping over his parts in Outlander Season 7B won’t take too much from the story, except for a reminder of who he is. This isn’t like taking out Dottie, which takes out a lot of Denny’s storyline from the books.

Could Hal Grey be in Outlander Season 8?

It’s the last season that I suspect we may see him. This is when he becomes more important as he learns that his son Benjamin is potentially dead. Only Ben isn’t. It turns out that Ben has switched sides!

Hal has a lot to deal with. He learns that Ben married and has a son. Now he’s faked his own death to become an officer for the Continental Army. Hal needs to do something that will protect his family, even if it means the opposite side for the one he’s fighting for winning.

This then leads to Captain Richardson taking Lord John Grey, which is where we end Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. We know Outlander Season 8 will introduce Benjamin’s wife, Amaranthus, and we can tell from the leaked images that Captain Richardson is likely to take Lord John Grey. Does this mean we’ll see Hal Grey in the final season? This could make sense, and it could be why we haven’t seen anything about his return.

Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
