Brianna learns what Roger did in the battle in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 99

This chapter sees Brianna and Roger back together. However, Bree learns that Roger didn’t stay away from the battle in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 99.

This is an important chapter for Brianna to understand what she is getting herself into with Roger. She understood what her role as a minister’s wife would be in terms of weddings and funerals. She would need to be there to support Roger and maybe even help him with the preparations for them. Of course, that’s all she’s seen up to this point.

This chapter makes it clear that there is more to the task of being a minister. She thought it would mean he’d stay away from battle, but that’s not the case at all. Instead, he will end up being on the battlefield. He won’t kill, but he could end up being killed.

I do wonder if this chapter foreshadows something in what happens to Roger in the future. We haven’t got to that if it does though. It could just foreshadow Roger’s part in the Revolutionary War, and I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

What about this chapter being used in the TV series? I think it will be, but not exactly as written. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.
