It's bittersweet news for Hal and John in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 98.

We head back to Lord John Grey and Hal Grey in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 98. They have a letter from Denny, but there’s some bittersweet news.

Sometimes, it’s hard to remember some of the smaller storylines going on. Up to this point, Denny has been caught by the British and held as a prisoner. However, nobody seems to care enough to actually do anything about that. Well, Denny has taken matters into his own hands, but not really by choice.

He writes to give an update about Dottie, Hal’s daughter. It’s not all good news. Now Denny has broken his parole and John needs to figure out the cipher in the letter to find where Dottie and Denny are.

This chapter brings up the reminder of Denny and Dottie’s storyline. I’m not sure there is that much foreshadowing in it, though. It’s pushing this plot forward and giving John and Hal something to do again. It’s also giving William something else to do.

Will it be used in the TV series? I doubt it. I don’t think there are plans to use Dottie at all in the series, and I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section of the post.
