Just the Outlander chapter

We open with Brianna in labor. Claire is there for her daughter, while Roger looks like he’s going to faint. I often laugh at how many write men when it comes to their wives being in labor. Some of them are so stereotypical it’s just hilarious. Roger certainly fits that.

Fanny is engrossed in it all. I love that she pays attention to everything that’s happening, and almost catches the placenta. Her comment about never getting married is so perfect for a 12-year-old girl seeing all of that.

The conversation is about naming the baby. Jamie doesn’t think a Jamie and a Jemmy in the same house is a good idea, but he suggests the name David. That was Brian’s middle name, and it’s the name of kings. Bree and Roger agree, with Bree adding William and Roger adding Ian to the list of names. Interestingly enough, Ian is in Jemmy’s list of names, too.

Something that I’m always surprised about is how Jemmy and Mandy aren’t there in the aftermath of the birth. Prudence and Patience turn up but not David’s siblings? That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
