Just the Outlander chapter

There is a lot of talk on what to do about Ulysses. Claire and Jamie are trying to figure out where he will go next, despite Young Ian out there following him. Claire wonders if there is anything in Frank’s book that will help, and Jamie points out that the man only focused on the Scots. That shouldn’t be too surprising considering the real reason Frank was writing this book.

There is a moment where Claire goes to check in on her patient. She uses High John the Conqueror root from her medicine bag in an attempt to bring forth her power, while thinking of Jackson’s ancestor. The next morning, she sees that Jackson’s condition has eased. Later, it seems like some of the healing has helped.

Jackson wants to leave with Esterhazy and Bembridge, who are heading out with the Cunninghams. Claire doesn’t want this to happen, but they will all leave. One thing Claire is surprised about is seeing Esterhazy and Bembridge working together considering everything that happened and the fact that Agnes hasn’t decided which of the two to marry yet.

At the end of the chapter, focus shifts back to Ulysses. Claire is terrified that Jamie will head out on his own to hunt the man. She doesn’t want that to happen. She’s dealing with a lot of PTSD throughout this chapter. There is the threat that the house will be burned down, and Claire can’t help but think of previous fires. It must be so scary for her.
