As much as we would love to see extra from the Outlander universe in 2024, that’s probably not going to happen. The prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is probably not going to arrive until 2025.
This is just speculation based on how long it takes to film a series like this. We’ve seen with Outlander that it takes a good year to get through production and post-production. We all understand Droughtlander, as much as we hate it. The prequel series is likely to be the same.
However, there is some good news in the fact that production is set to start in the new year. There is a chance that the show was originally going to arrive in late 2024 but the show was affected by the strike action this summer—the writers are part of the WGA union and many in production stood with the actors despite it not being a SAG production.
When could Outlander: Blood of My Blood arrive on STARZ?
With production starting up in January, we’re looking at a 2025 release date for the season. The series has 10 episodes, which means that we could see production wrap sometime in the late summer. This is based on Sam Heughan sharing that Outlander Season 8 production is set to start in early spring and will likely wrap around October.
After that is post-production. With the mothership series, post-production can take just as long as production. Let’s say production does wrap in August, we’re looking at early 2025 for post-production to finish. That puts us at spring or summer 2025 for Outlander: Blood of My Blood arriving.
That’s if STARZ wants to release the prequel series before Outlander Season 8. STARZ probably will as it will give the premium cable network time to see if the prequel is something to renew before the mothership series comes to an end.
