Outlander: Blood of My Blood is in production. The prequel series will tell us the story of Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie. Of course, the Outlander prequel spin-off will initially air on STARZ, but could it move to Netflix afterward?
Netflix has licensed a lot of content under a non-exclusive deal. This includes Outlander. It was a surprise move a few years ago under Chris Albrecht’s leadership, but it proved to be a good one. The series saw a boost in viewership for the fifth season through the STARZ App.
Now eyes are on the prequel series. We don’t have a STARZ release date just yet, but fans want to know if there’s a chance we’ll see it arrive on Netflix. The honest answer is we just don’t know.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is guaranteed to be on STARZ
The only network the series will air on just now is STARZ. The premium cable network greenlit the show, confirming this as it renewed the flagship series for an eighth and final season.
STARZ CEO Jeremy Hirsch wasn’t that happy that Albrecht had made a deal with Netflix for the flagship series. He wanted to keep STARZ shows on STARZ. However, it’s clear that the non-exclusive deal with Netflix has been a good thing for the show. It’s also been a good thing for other shows on other networks. Netflix is the biggest streaming platform. With the biggest audience, it helps the success of other shows.
It makes it hard to say whether Outlander: Blood of My Blood will go to Netflix. If it does, it’s likely to be with the same schedule as Outlander, which arrives two years after its finale airs. That would suggest Netflix won’t get the prequel until 2027 at the earliest, presuming the prequel airs in 2025. Hirsch may dig his heals in, though, and only make the flagship series available on Netflix to encourage more people to STARZ to watch the prequel.
