There isn't a new episode of House of the Dragon tonight (When will it return?)

Sunday nights are all about the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. There is some bad news for tonight, Sunday, Aug. 11.

There isn’t a new episode of the fantasy historical series tonight. And no, it’s not HBO taking an odd week off in the schedule. The previous episode was the Season 2 finale.

It certainly didn’t feel much like a finale of a season. There wasn’t that much action, with the story building the blocks for the next part of the story. It certainly leaves a lot open for Season 3, and now the wait is on. This season could have certainly done with another episode to bring a big moment to end the season with to make us more excited for Season 3.

When will House of the Dragon return with new episodes?

The good news going into Season 2 is that there is more to the story. HBO confirmed that House of the Dragon Season 3 would happen. There is hope of a fourth season as well, which is set to be the final season of the series. After all, there is an end point to the Dance of the Dragons.

When could we see House of the Dragon Season 3? This is something that’s debatable, but we’re not expecting it before 2026.

Pre-production will start in fall 2024. Production will then start up at the beginning of 2025. With a show of this magnitude, we’re looking at the show needing 18 months to get through filming and post-production at least. This would take us to the summer of 2026, which matches the releases of the first two seasons of the series.

HBO hasn’t confirmed anything as of yet. We won’t get much in the way of confirmation for some time, but it’s easy to see that 2025 is already packed with some great content, including The Last of Us and White Lotus. HBO will want to keep another big show for the year after.
