Nick Offerman tackles the role of a president in a new historical drama
Death By Lightning is a new historical drama coming to Netflix. Nick Offerman will take on the role of a president, and we have the details of what to expect in the series.
The series will come from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss. It comes off the back of their sci-fi series 3 Body Problem, which is now available to stream, and it is a chance to look at the assassination of a president.
We see a lot of stories about Lincoln and Kennedy, but it’s time to focus on another assassinated president. Death By Lightning is all about the assassination of James Garfield in 1881.
What is Death By Lightning about?
The series is based on Candice Miller’s book Destiny of the Republic. It follows Garfield’s short term as President of the United States. Just six months into his first term, he was assassinated by Charles Guiteau, his disgruntled clerk.
We get to see the story of why the assassination happened. We see the buildup, the reasons, and the take down of Guiteau as he faced the consequences of his crimes.
Who does Nick Offerman play?
The Last of Us star will take on the role of Chester A. Arthur, who was Vice President at the time of Garfield’s time as President, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That means he does become President of the United States. Of course, that wasn’t easy considering the events that took place for him to get that role. Not only did Arthur have to step into this sudden role, but he had to help with the search for the man who killed the president.
Michael Shannon will take on the role of James Garfield, while Matthew Macfayden, who was in The Last Kingdom, will play Charles Guiteau. Betty Gilpin will take on the role of First Lady Crete Garfield.
